Exclusive Interview with Nabil Hayari
Nabil Hayari, the designer and founder of the luxury brand HAYARI Paris, is the youngest of a large Algerian-French-Lebanese family. His passion for couture started at a very early age, as he began drawing and creating embroidery designs with his grandmother, a dressmaker and embroideress.
Young and ambitious, Nabil Hayari graduated with honours from one of the most prestigious fashion schools in Paris, School Sup de Mode. After working as a creative director at a Parisian haute-couture house, in 2009 Nabil Hayari launched his own couture label HAYARI Paris at the heart of the famous Parisian “Golden Triangle” district, at 3 Avenue Matignon. There he creates unique and exclusive gowns and wedding dresses in the purest French couture tradition, all Made in France. Nabil Hayari presented his “made-to-measure” designs for the first time that same year at Moscow Fashion Week, and later in Los Angeles, New York and the Middle East.
After extending all around the world, Nabil Hayari decided to develop his brand with the creation of an accessories collection, composed of women jewellery, leather bags and a perfume collection with fragrances for women and for men. He designs men and women total looks completed with his accessories and perfumes. This universe of Nabil Hayari’s creations allays his hunger for discoveries and new experiences.
The year 2014 marks the opening of the first flagship boutique in Paris at Saint Germain des Prés, a charming, refined and luxurious Parisian environment dedicated to HAYARI Paris Perfumes and Fashion Accessories. In addition, customers can find and purchase Hayari’s products online, in the brand’s web store.
Nabil Hayari has just had a fabulous show of his new winter Haute Couture collection at the luxurious Hotel George V in Paris, which took place on 7th July 2016.
We are delighted to have an opportunity to talk to Nabil Hayari and ask him about his passion for fashion design, the inspiration for his collections, the jewellery and the perfumes that he creates.
Mr. Hayari, could you, please, tell more about the brand HAYARI Paris? What do you create in addition to evening and wedding gowns? How many collections do you produce each year?
HAYARI Paris represents the French «Savoir-Faire», the Parisian chic with a modern touch.
We are very proud of our 9 fragrances sold in more than 200 retail shops around the world and more recently of our new line of jewellery, though we already created jewellery for our fashion shows before.
The difference between us and other couture houses is that we really make dresses by measure, we create them every day, but in order to follow the Haute Couture calendar we present two collections a year, one in January and the other one in July.
What is the philosophy of the brand? What is its signature style?
Elegance and highlighting of the woman’s beauty with a true “made-to-measure” gown.
Creativity, the quality of the realization, the careful finishes, the luxury embroideries and the real listening to and meeting the client’s desire and needs.
Who is the woman behind the brand? Who are your customers?
We don’t have an exact target. The Hayari woman is the one who takes care of herself, who wants to be wonderful and wants to be a free woman.
Do you have fashion icons?
Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe.
Could you name other designers who have influenced you or those whose work admire most?
Dior mainly, but also Gabrielle Chanel, who freed the woman’s body. And also Paul Poiret.
Where do you find inspiration? What inspires you to create new collections of dresses and of accessories?
I take my inspiration from travel, from meeting other people, visiting art museums.
What is the most enjoyable thing in your work?
The challenge of creating new gowns with technique’s difficulty still not executed until now.
Why do you think fashion accessories are important for women?
I always create a total look for my clients whether for the red carpet or for an important ceremony.
The accessories, just like the perfumes, are the final touch to create the “wow” effect.
What has been the highlight of your brand or the biggest success so far?
Seeing my dresses on the red carpet of the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the Cannes festival.
Could you, please, describe the process of creating your collections?
Everything begins with a drawing after a talk with the client about her desires. I ask her if the event has a theme, which season it is, and if she wants a particular fabric. After that I make a “moulage”, which is the know-how of the Haute Couture that reduces the fittings with the client. To finish we choose the fabrics and the embroideries and we make some fittings until the dress is perfect.
Who would you like most to wear your gowns and accessories?
All women.
What are your plans for the future? What are you currently working at?
We work on the projects of opening a new boutique in New York and in the Middle East.
What countries are your creations available in? Where can our readers buy your creations?
The clients come to our showroom in Paris. Our jewellery and our perfumes can also be bought through our online store or in more than 200 offline retail shops listed on our web site www.hayariparis.com
