Mauro Gasperi belongs to a new generation of Italian designers aiming at reinventing creativity. The sophisticated fusion of fashion and architecture features all Mauro Gasperi’s womenswear collections, with the graphical and architectural mark being an integral and essential part of Mauro Gasperi’s style. Mauro Gasperi’s woman is a renewed, cosmopolitan and urban one, with a casual, free and contemporary spirit.

This Italian fashion designer’s background includes the artistic high school in Brescia (near Milan), studies in fashion design and knitwear in the International Fashion School “Polimoda” in Florence, from where he worked for Paola Frani, Doratex, Dolce & Gabbana and others, before opening his first flagship store in Brescia and creating his own clothing line.

Mauro Gasperi has regularly taken part in Milan Fashion Week and the Fashion Weeks in Tokyo, Kiev, Warsaw, Berlin, Monte Carlo, Guangzhou and Moscow.

Mauro Gasperi’s collections, made of clean and essential cuts, immediate constructions and intentional contrast both in materials and colors, offering a total look, are currently distributed in several stores in Italy and abroad, including Japan and the Middle East.

Today we have an opportunity to talk to Mauro Gasperi and ask him about his brand and the designing process.

Could you, please, tell more about your brand?

Mauro Gasperi brand was born in 2008 from Mauro Gasperi designer. The brand develops total-look collections: clothes, knitwear and accessories.
All the items are completely made in Italy: the first ideas, the fabrics and the production.
In these years the brand has had a growth not only in Italy but also in different other countries in the world like Japan, China, Moscow and Dubai. Mauro Gasperi presents his collections during Milan Fashion Week and others fashion weeks around the world.

Who were or are your fashion icons?

My fashion icons are Kate Moss, Cara Delevigne, Olivia Palermo.

Could you name other designers who have influenced you or those whose work you admire most?

Stella Mc Cartney, Miuccia Prada.

What is your signature style?

My style is avant-garde and cosmopolitan, minimalistic but with a tone of chic and feminine.

Could you describe your brand in 3 words?

Cosmopolitan, chic, minimal.

Where do you find inspiration for your collections?

The inspirations arrive from my travels, vintage shops, books and art (design and architecture in particular).

Could you, please, describe your creative process?

From inspirations I create a moodboard and sketches. With my team I translate the sketches into the papers and then create the models of the collection. Then this collection is sent to my showroom in Milan to sell for the buyers.

What is the best part of designing?

The inspirations, the creation and the fashion show.

What is the most challenging part of a designer’s work?

The creation.

Which event in your life has influenced your career as a fashion designer most of all?

Maybe the winning in 2009 a competition “Fashion Incubator” organized by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and the beginning of my fashion show.

What is the story behind your latest collection? What was it inspired by?

My latest collection, spring summer 2016 is inspired by Chinese design and architecture elements, as a Guanghzou tower, its colors and design. During my different travels in China, I visited many cities there. I like the lights and colors of these cities.

Which singer or actress best embodies your latest collection and why?

Tilda Swinton, because she’s very androgynous woman with a particular personality.

What do you think is the most essential fashion accessory and why?

A beautiful bag, because it helps to exalt the woman look.

Do you enjoy traveling and what are your favourite destinations?

I love traveling, in particular I like the eastern cities as Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

What has been the highlight of your brand or the biggest success so far?

The fashion shows in many different places in the world.

Who would you most like to wear your designs?

I would like to see many women wearing my outfit when I’m walking in the street.

What are your plans for the future?

I think that I will continue with my woman collection but I’d like to do a man capsule collection. I would also like to make my brand known in America.

What is the most important advice you would give to those willing to establish their own brand?

Don’t expect instant success, this job is very difficult.
